This Thursday ( 23rd of July, as in tomorrow ) the "Angel of the South" sculpture will be making it's debut appearance on the Old Steine in Brighton (where the Schpegiel tent usually parks ).

At 1pm you are cordially invited to come along and add your mark to this amazing piece of sculpture...you can either brand your message into the Boat's 100 year old hull, or if you prefer beat your message into a sheet of brass, which will then be attached to the huge brass wings...( interested yet?!)

If the weather is really bad - you will be transported to a top secret venue to make your mark, out of the rain...we think of everything :)

Niki Best is back on the gallery scene. And no one is better placed to gather together some of the far flung strands of contemporary street art and knit them into a new shape (a balaclava may be?).

Niki Best has joined forces with Pussy Home Boutique to bring you a proper end to the Brighton Festival show, incased in a sunny spot close to the seafront. The bright gallery upstairs at the big Pussy store is a great venue to view these desirable, affordable and collectable pieces. With a weather eye to the future value, we are showing passionate work by inspired young artists.
The works on show are drawn from Niki's own extensive collection of rare and collectable prints together with new works by some of the artists she gave space to when they were new kids on her Clerkenwell block. When her gallery closed she took time out to relocate to Brighton, recuperate, and raise her son. Always ahead of the game, she was promoting and collecting the work of up-coming artists when some of them were barely out of nappies themselves. Her eye for vibrant, relevant talent has been proved again and again by the quality of the commissions and reputation that many of them have continued to make.
The show includes vintage framed and unframed, signed, limited edition prints from Frank Kozik, Nick Walker, Mike Giant, Rikki Marr, Shepard Fairey, Noah Butkus, Astek and Matt Sewell to name but a few.
New and exclusive work comes from Pinky, INSA, Danny Sangra, and illustrious illustrators such as Curly Mark, Al Murphy, Alex Binnie, Saira Hunjun and Bert, amongst others. Brighton's own Pinky will be contributing a mural in his eye-popping, life and love-affirming psychedelic style to the walls of the boutique.

Today was the kick off event for many Bobbito in Tokyo events. It was a “my best AF1 competion” along with short interview/talkshow. Around 60 people entered, mostly wack and new things won the competion. Prizes were the set of AF1 original six doll/action figures from medicom. Sick prize. Grand prize winner won that set and got to go to the ID studio with Bobbito. There were also gift bags for the event which included a special shoe box filled with goodies.

As promised here are the details of our extra special Christmas show - extra special as not only is it INSA, but our last exhibition in Best’s present location. Yes indeed... after three lovely years at 5 Back Hill, it’s time to move onwards and upwards. We will be going global as it were, please watch this space for more details and don’t forget to come down and celebrate three years of amazing artists that morphed our humble little space into an amazing art gallery. Thanks to all the people who have supported us over the years, to all talented and even the not so talented! I could name everyone, but I’d be sure to leave someone out - and then there’rd be trouble!

Home Made Tattoos Rule. It’s a book by a dude named tom (Thomas Jeppe to be precise). Some of the illest shit you’ve ever seen. If I was some sort of insane, mentalist, criminal-lunatic type I’d be covered in home made tattoos. Tom says “when the assumptions of professional tattooing are forgotten, freedom reigns”. Oh, word? The Pigeon Consortium and Best are please to annouce that new works by London graffiti legend ASTEK will be on show at the Best Gallery from 7th July-1st August. In his first solo show despite thre decades as one of London’s most influential writers.
